why do you love working at Puzzle Pieces and doing the work you do

Puzzle Pieces is a vision that Nikki and I cultivated together by sharing a strong need to create a space that is founded in a community.  A community of amazing people who share a common goal for supporting children and families in an accepting and creative environment.  It’s more meaningful than one could imagine knowing you have helped an individual or family live a happier existence as a whole. I feel gratitude that families trust us to let us in and am honored to work with the clinical staff on our team!

explain your philosophy towards work

When I started out as a clinician, I had come from a background in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling.  It was a whole person perspective with a deep understanding of what can often be underneath the words people say.  That is likely what drew me to working and connecting with children and especially children with individual differences.  My graduate thesis work focused on mothers of young children with Autism and I think that may be where my passion for my work started to evolve.  I had always been a ‘kid person’ but I realized as I ventured into intensive family services and later Early Intervention that you have to be a ‘parent person’ as well to be most effective when you work with kids.  As a clinician I was often left feeling unsettled transitioning families out of EI with no other family-centered option in sight.   Becoming a mother  myself only fueled my desire to create a space that parents can truly be part of the therapeutic process for their children in a more meaningful way.  I continue to embrace the unspoken movements, the art in human connection and the joyful work of play in therapy.

explain what you do at Puzzle Pieces

Despite the growing need for Nikki and I to spend much of our time managing the administrative and creative development tasks of the practice, we both still carry a small clinical caseload.  It is important to me to continue sharing what I have learned through the years with families that need our support.  However, a big part of what we do each day is to support our clinicians through supervision to hone their skills, curate an inspiring work environment and connect with the community we serve.

what do you like doing outside of work

Outside of work, I am a busy mother of two daughters and enjoy family time with them, my husband and our beloved dog, Molly.  We are beach bums to the core and love everything our coastal community has to offer.  I enjoy cooking, gardening, kayaking, skiing, paddle boarding, time with friends and the outdoors (except camping unless it’s ‘glamping’ haha).
