why do you love working at Puzzle Pieces and doing the work you do

Puzzle Pieces affords me the opportunity to follow my passion for supporting children and families by harnessing the creativity that energizes me each day.  Nothing is more rewarding than providing a family with the tools and strategies they need to experience success with their child. I love that we provide a safe space for families where they feel they can come as they are, and receive the support they need.

explain your philosophy towards work

I began my clinical career in Early Intervention which first ignited my interest in the practice of family-centered clinical work. It was also around this time in my career that I was introduced to DIRFloortime® therapy.  The results were simply inspiring.  I was so impressed by the growth I witnessed between children and their families when the intervention approach is driven by meeting the child where they are at, working to understand their interests,  how they see the world, and supporting their growth from that place.  Beginning my training in DIRFloortime® as a result of this inspiration, I quickly realized this option of therapy was not readily available to all families in an equitable way in my community.  Seeing families denied an opportunity to decide which approach to intervention was best for their child was disheartening.  At the time, ABA was prevalent as the only choice accessible to most families. This experience is fundamental to my inspiration and remains the motivation I have to deliver relationship based, developmental approaches to intervention for families in our community.

explain what you do at Puzzle Pieces

As one of the Clinical Directors at Puzzle Pieces I get to wear many hats! I work individually with children/adolescents and their families and I supervise our clinicians across three therapeutic disciplines. In addition, Megan and I collaborate on managing and developing the practice.

what do you like doing outside of work

I love spending time with my family and keeping up with my busy young children. I enjoy exploring the outdoors, whether it be hiking, skiing, or a day at the beach. I have a passion for travelling the world (I’ve set foot on four continents so far, three to go!) and cooking new, creative meals.
