When people think about therapy, they often picture one-on-one sessions and clinical goals, but at Puzzle Pieces, the work is about so much more. We focus on building relationships, celebrating progress, supporting families, and helping children feel seen, understood, and empowered. If you ask any member of our team why they love working here, you’ll hear different stories but many of the same themes. Here’s what it’s really like to be part of the Puzzle Pieces team.

Relationships Come First
One of the things that makes Puzzle Pieces unique is our belief that relationships are the foundation for development. Meaningful progress always starts with connection. Whether you’re talking to our speech therapists, occupational therapists, mental health clinicians, or support staff, many of our team members describe the relationships with children and families as the most rewarding part of their job. They love witnessing growth over time, celebrating milestones, and becoming trusted partners in a family’s journey.
Sometimes this growth looks like a child saying their first word, or sometimes it looks like trying a new food, making a friend, having success during a difficult transition, or learning to express a feeling. No matter how big or small the milestone may seem, our team understands the significance it can have for a child and their family.

Every Day is Different
At Puzzle Pieces, creativity is part of the job. Our clinicians use play, creativity, movement, and shared interests to help children build skills and confidence. Therapy doesn’t happen at a boring desk. It may involve pretending to be pirates, building obstacle courses, creating art, reading books, climbing swings, playing games, or exploring a child’s favorite topic. Every child is unique, and therefore, our staff is constantly adapting, problem-solving, and finding creative ways to support growth and development. The work is challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding.
Many of our team members share that they love the opportunity to meet children where they are and discover what motivates them. Seeing a child become engaged, confident, and excited to participate is another meaningful part of the job.

Collaboration is Part of Our Culture
Our multidisciplinary team, including experts in speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, mental health counseling, feeding therapy, DIRFloortime, and more, regularly collaborate across disciplines to understand the whole child and provide support for families. Questions are welcome, ideas are shared, and challenges are approached as a team. Whether a clinician is seeking input on a sensory challenge, communication goal, or emotional regulation strategy, there is always someone ready to offer support and perspective. This collaborative environment deeply benefits children and families and creates opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

Supporting the Whole Child
Children are more than a diagnosis, behavior, or therapy goal. We take a developmental, relationship-based, and neurodiversity-affirming approach to care, which means we focus on understanding each child’s unique strengths, interests, sensory profile, communication style, and developmental needs. Rather than asking,” How do we change this child?” we ask, “How can we better understand and support this child?” and this perspective shapes everything we do.
We also believe that supporting children means supporting families, too. Working with parents and caregivers is often another meaningful part of our roles. Helping a family better understand their child, build confidence, and feel less alone can be just as impactful as any therapy session. Through parent coaching, family therapy, free educational workshops, consultations, and ongoing collaboration, our team works to ensure families feel supported every step of the way.

I love working at Puzzle Pieces because it is extremely welcoming and collaborative. It is great to work closely with the families and children, as well as other professionals who make up the multidisciplinary team! – Lindsay Carlow, MS, CF-SLP
Small Moments Create Big Impact
If you ask our team what keeps them motivated, you’ll rarely hear them talk about major breakthroughs. Instead, they’ll tell you about the child who discovered a new way to connect with the people who matter most, the student who finally raised their hand in class, the toddler who tried a new food, or the family who finally feels hopeful after months of uncertainty. While these moments may seem small from the outside, they represent meaningful growth and hard work for children and their families. Our team understands that development happens one relationship, one interaction, and one small success at a time.

Working at Puzzle Pieces means being part of a team of professionals that genuinely cares about children, families, and each other. If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families every day, check out our open roles and apply today.
